Interview

I always enjoy an interview. It makes me think.... and put to words — things that sometimes just remain thoughts in passing. Thoughts that dance around the periphery of my mind, but never become cemented into a usable, workable form. Actually, I should re-phrase that... I use them, but could not put them to words... using those thoughts subconsciously... By putting them on paper - I'm made more aware - and most likely more productive.

I recently had the pleasure of putting my thoughts into words for Joel Addams. He didn't interview me per se, instead, he allowed me to simply put my thoughts out there for others to read. Hopefully, expressing my views on photography will spark an interest with some — and encourage others to look in more places, and become more receptive — to just what it is that draws our interest.

Clik Elite - "Sometimes, Photography is a Sport"

Some of you may want to visit my website for portfolios, CV, Statement, etc....  and I am currently revising it - so be sure to hit the *refresh* button if you return...  this blog will be more news, discussions, what's new...  please feel free to respond and/or ask questions. I'll do my best to answer, puleeez keep in mind this will be from my point of view - and that can be very different from yours. The goal being more to put out ideas - giving you things to think about, along with the more typical stat stuff.

Today I'd like to tell you about a great company, that makes backpacks specifically for Adventure Photographers. You know who you are. You don't work in a studio. You travel, grab your gear and go. A bag and/or backpack is a very important part of your gear. After all, it carries all your gear. I'm fortunate enough to have found what I consider the VERY BEST camera gear backpack company: Clik Elite Some of us need room for jackets, rain gear, hats, food, water... you know - the essentials beyond our equipment that keep us going. I've had input in the design of the Venture 35. I love this pack. Big enough to comfortably carry 1 pro body and 4 or 5 lenses. Filters, cleaning cloths (brushes and blower too) loupe, filters, cable release, spare battery... all the goods. As well as other necessities. If I want to go longer/farther, or just carry more gear, I love the Hiker. With the aluminum stays, I can handle the weight comfortably. And for airline travel, I use the Pro Express, that also has room for my computer. In front, not in the back, causing discomfort when it is against MY back. Imagine that!

So - Kudos to the Clik Elite team. Great products, well made, adjustable tailor fit system, designed by those that really go out and USE the packs.

Check out the July issue of PDN (photographers district news) magazine, page 77.  That would be me, working out of my Venture 35.

First Post

This is my first blog - so please bear with me.
My name is Carolyn Guild (I'm sure you figured that one out) my maiden name was Carter. My father, Dr. Harold Carter is basically responsible for my interest in photography, along with my husband Whitney. Dad always had a RolieFlex around his neck.... and encouraged me to take cameras with me.... and bring home memories - as he used to say. One thing led to another, and here I am spending a good portion of life, camping, hiking, spending time out in our natural world - making photographs. Printing (I love printing) getting work framed - exhibiting my photographs - giving talks about the hows and the whys and the wherefors.....

I'm fortunate to have several wonderful galleries to represent me, and handle sales. Starting with:
Susan Spiritus Gallery, Newport Beach
Eric Phleger, Encinitas, California Gallery  on ArtNet
Coda Gallery, Park City, Utah
Galerija Birkenfelds, Riga, Latvia
Mr. Hal Gould, Denver, Colorado *The man in the darkroom* - now retired from curating his gallery, to have more time to make photographs!

I'll end with one of my favorite photographs (at this point in time - although you might say they are all my favorite...)
